Honda BR-V β Comprehensive Web Research (Indonesia Market)
Research Date: July 2025 Market: Indonesia Generation: Gen-2 / All New (2021βpresent) Status: Currently on sale
1. Overview
Honda BR-V is a 7-seater Low SUV sold in Indonesia since 2015 (gen-1) and 2021 (gen-2 / All New). The second generation is the current model on sale. It is available in standard and N7X Edition variants, positioned as the only proper SUV-bodied vehicle in the Low SUV segment with available ADAS (Honda Sensing). Unlike many competitors that are rebadged LMPVs, the BR-V retains a genuine SUV form factor with 220 mm ground clearance and a 2-3-2 seating layout. The Honda Sensing suite on the top-tier Prestige HS variant makes it the only vehicle in this price class to offer factory ADAS, though this comes at a significant price premium over the base model.

10. Resale Value
| Model Year | Typical Used Price Range (Rp) |
|---|---|
| 2024 | 228,000,000β296,000,000 |
| 2022β2023 | 198,000,000β248,000,000 |
Depreciation is approximately 20% in the first 2 years (per Kompas data). Resale is considered stable owing to the Honda badge and shared parts commonality with Mobilio and Jazz. The Prestige and Honda Sensing variants tend to retain value better than lower trims.
11. Suspension, NVH & Handling
Suspension
Reviewers consistently rate the BR-V's suspension as "balanced" β neither too soft nor too hard. It performs well for daily driving and adequately absorbs bumps and road imperfections. However, it can feel stiff at full load (7 passengers) or on very rough roads. AutonetMagz described the gen-2 as "fun to drive, suspensi lebih enak" compared to gen-1. Fitra Eri of Otodriver noted comparable ride maturity to the Xpander Cross.
NVH
Noise, Vibration, and Harshness characteristics have improved significantly over gen-1 with better insulation on the doors, floor, and roof. However, it is still not class-leading β tire noise and wind noise remain audible at highway speeds. Multiple sources note increased cabin noise during rain. At city driving speeds and medium velocities, the cabin is comfortable with minimal intrusive noise. Kompas acknowledged NVH as an area with "plus minus" characteristics, meaning it remains a point for further improvement.
Handling
The BR-V is widely considered the best-handling vehicle in the Low SUV segment. Steering response is sharp and the car remains stable at high speeds. Body roll is well-controlled and not excessive for a tall-riding 7-seater. Multiple reviewers highlight its "fun to drive" character as a key differentiator. In a Motomobi instrumented test, the BR-V clocked a 0β100 km/h time of 10.9 seconds (with AC on), the best in its class.
12. Hill Climb Performance
GridOto tested the BR-V on a 17-degree incline with a full complement of 7 passengers, AC running, starting from a dead stop β the BR-V passed without issue. HSA (Hill Start Assist) effectively kept the car from rolling back during the launch. Further testing showed the vehicle capable of climbing inclines up to 30 degrees in low gear. Multiple owners confirm strong performance on mountain roads including Puncak (Bogor) and Sitinjau Lauik (West Sumatra).
The BR-V's hill climb performance is significantly better than the Toyota Veloz, which famously failed GridOto's identical hill climb test. The 121 PS output combined with a well-tuned CVT mapping provides reliable uphill capability even when fully loaded.

13. Interior & Cabin
Row 1 (Driver & Front Passenger)
The driving position is comfortable with a good view of the road. The dashboard is dominated by black trim with soft-touch materials on the upper portions. The head unit is 7" or 9" depending on variant. A digital TFT instrument cluster is standard on the E trim and above (S M/T uses an analog cluster). AC controls are conventional dial-type. The notable miss is the absence of telescopic steering adjustment on all variants, which limits the driver's ability to fine-tune the wheel position.
Row 2 (Middle Row)
Legroom and headroom are generous. An armrest is provided on Prestige and above. ISOFIX child seat anchors are available. The bench folds flat to extend cargo capacity. A power outlet is available from the E CVT variant upward. The row comfortably seats 3 adults.
Row 3 (Rear Row)
A significant improvement over gen-1. An adult of 177 cm height can sit with approximately 3 cm of remaining knee room and headroom. Row 3 folds completely flat, creating a large cargo floor. Air conditioning reaches row 3 via a double blower system (the blower is positioned at the row 2 center β there is no dedicated row 3 vent unit). A power outlet is available on Prestige and above. Row 3 is best suited for children or adults on short trips.
Baggage / Cargo
Approximately 564.7 liters of cargo space is available with row 3 folded flat. With all three rows in use, cargo space is adequate for daily needs but limited for long trips with 7 occupants.
14. Common Problems & Complaints
-
Suspension / undercarriage wear β Drive shaft rubber boots, arm bushings, shock absorber rubber mounts, and engine mounting wear have been reported. This was more prevalent on gen-1 but is also reported on gen-2 at higher mileage.
-
CVT "ngeden" under load β A delay or rubber-band feel when performing a kickdown, especially on steep inclines. This is a common characteristic of Honda CVT transmissions across models.
-
NVH / cabin noise β Wind noise at highway speeds and rain noise are recurring complaints. This remains an area for improvement across the lineup.
-
No telescopic steering β A universal complaint from professional reviewers and owners. Only tilt adjustment is provided, limiting ergonomic flexibility.
-
No rear defogger β Absent on all variants. Fitra Eri specifically called this out, saying it "feels like a cheap car" for this omission.
-
No electric parking brake β All variants use a manual handbrake lever. Competitors in this price range are increasingly offering EPB.
-
Rear drum brakes β Only the front brakes are ventilated disc. The rear uses drum brakes, while the Toyota Rush offers 4-disc brakes.
-
Tailgate heavy to close β The tailgate must be pressed firmly to close; it does not latch with a normal push, which can be frustrating in daily use.
-
AC insufficient in hot climate β Some owners report the air conditioning is not sufficiently cold, especially with a full passenger load under Indonesian heat.
-
Electrical issues β Occasional reports of lights dying, battery drain, and fuse issues, though these are less common than the above items.
-
Paint quality β Some reports of paint scratching easily and headlamp lens hazing over time.
-
Honda Sensing only on top variant β At Rp 362β370M, the Honda Sensing variant is significantly above the base price, placing ADAS out of reach for most buyers.
-
No 360Β° camera β Only LaneWatch (a left-side camera) is available, and only on the top variant. No variant offers a 360Β° surround-view camera.
